Visual Statement
The visual aspects that I am interested in capturing include the nature vs city environments. The locations are the fascinating aspects of this documentary; which are bee hives on roofes in Toronto. Being able to convey the more natural side of a city and its importance to the environment is the main goal of this documentary. The audience rating is G for general, this documentary is meant to be enjoyed by anyone, but specifically for the environmentalists, the people of Toronto, and beekeepers. I did reference other media for some of my visual style; such as the documentary titled, “Air” (https://vimeo.com/188171839). However, we are going for a lighter feel with brighter lighting and more colour than “Air”, but we do plan to include slow-mo and shots that have shallow depth of field with rack focuses. Another inspiration is Wes Anderson, for the establishing shots, we are going for a centered symmetrical look with deep depth of field; and soft lighting (2:1) for the interviews. Most of the b-roll shots will be “handheld” with either a shoulder rig or handheld; while the interviews and establishing will be locked down on sticks. The lighting will be fairly soft, using daylight to our advantage to create a natural warm feel, we plan to control the light using flags, silks, and reflectors to create a flattering image of the beekeepers of Toronto.
